Where did the tradition of the groom not seeing the bride's wedding dress before the wedding come from?

Technically according to superstition he can see the Dress by itself before the wedding but just not the Bride in the dress before the wedding.

This is because back when there were prearranged marriages Grooms weren't allowed to see their bride until AFTER they were married in fear that the Groom would find her ugly and not marry her. This is also where the veil tradition comes from. The veil now is just for show, and if they do wear it down over their fave many women will opt for a much lighter veil and it is lifted before the ceremony really begins.
