Can short dresses be used for prom/formal dance?

I don't really like dressing up. So, I got this black and white dress thats very cute and simple for me, and I'm kinda worried because everyone says short dresses are more for homecoming. Please tell me if short dresses are good for prom too. Thanks!!

If I were you I would not worry too much and wear what your comfortable in. I went to prom once in a shorter dress and I did not feel out of place. I honestly do not think its a big deal how long your dress is as long as you look banging in it.
