if a bridesmaid brings a date to a wedding, where does he sit?

I'm a bridesmaid in my brothers wedding... I want to bring a date so I have someone to dance with, talk to, etc. my brother and his fiancee said that that was fine. my question is... if I'm at the wedding party table next to the bride and groom... where does my date sit? does he sit next to me or with our parents at the other table? i've never been in a wedding so I have no clue!
